<span class="highlight">Satellite</span> <span class="highlight">Phone</span> Replacement Battery

I'm having difficulty finding a replacement battery for a Motorola 9505 satellite phone.

After long Google search I found a supplier who only repacks existing batteries but no replacement battery suppliers.

Would appreciate assistance if someone knows a supplier. Thanks.

Cheers

Have you thought to contact Motorola. Surely they would be the logical source.

Yes, gave them a try but Motorola Aust do not deal direct to the public and refer enquiries to their dealers whose prices are also up with the satellites.

I ordered an exact one of those for my 9505. It arrived yesterday. It didn't fit. They sent me a battery for the 9505A. It was different from that pictured. With luck I'll get the right one in the end or a refund, but I will have to send it back to the US. Casper

Strange, I got the right one.

Casper, I do recall reading somewhere that you can make a 9505a battery fit a 9505 ( or visa versa) if you file off the plastic tab. That may be an option if you get stuck. Check it thoug, I am just going from memory from about a year ago.

He sent me one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/2800mAh-Battery-for-Iridium-9505A_W0QQitemZ200302169213QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item2ea2f08c7d

And answered my query today to say I should cut the tabs off and try it. Yeah right, sounds like a good way to damage my satphone. I suspect there may be more than just a mechanical difference between the two batteries or Motorola would surely have not made them incompatible.

I measured the voltages on the pins. The battery I was sent has one pin unconnected, whilst the original has all pins connected.

Note also in the link above that the battery supplied is not only different to that advertised, but much cheaper.

I hope it is an honest mistake and will be remedied, or that at least he will pay for return shipping.

cowpat,
It pays to read eBay advertising very closely, the seller in question has shown a photo of a genuine Iridium battery but their advertising text below says otherwise,

"New Generic 3rd Party none OEM
Replacement Battery For Iridium Battery for IRIDIUM MOTOROLA SYN0060C for 9505 9500 Satellite Phones

Free Shipping! Worldwide

(Photo for reference purpose only, battery is a High capacity 2800mAH)"

The first and the last lines are the key, "Non OEM" meaning not genuine a Motorola battery and "Photo for reference purpose only" says we'll show a genuine battery but that's not what you'll receive.

The other thing to remember is the Iridium phones "know" a non genuine battery from a genuine battery. You'll get an "Invalid Battery" error message on the screen if the phone doesn't like the installed battery.

Boobook is saying the sellers correct battery works in an Iridium phone which means it can satisfy the Iridium of its suitability if it's the correct battery for the phone.

I wouldn't file the tabs off either. As you say, Motorola changed the battery after the 9500-9505 when they made the 9505A for a reason! I've no idea of the battery used in the new 9555 phones.

Thanks for the info re the Iridium/Invalid Battery warning - the whole "cut tabs off" thing sounds a bit risky to me. I was expecting a non-OEM battery but one that was compatible, both physically and electrically. I didn't realise the picture was actually of a genuine battery as it is a different model to mine.
